Venture Scouting
What are Venture Scouts?
Venture Scouts, aged 15½ to 20, are The Scout Association's senior Training Section, comprising of young men and women who are prepared to make the Scout Promise., whether or not they have previous Scouting or Guiding experience.
What do they do?
The Section is made up of Units. A Group Unit is part of a single Scout Group, whilst a local Unit draws it members from several Groups within a Scout District.
The Units are responsible for their own planning of activities and business matters. From their numbers, they appoint an Executive Committee, to manage the business of the Unit. Units are run on a self-motivating, self programming and self-discipling basis.
There is a Unit leader, who is warranted with the Scout Association, and the Leaders role is, not to manage or arrange, but to oversee the running of the Unit and advise the members on all aspects of their activities and programme.
Activities vary between Units depending upon Members' interests and resources. Hiking and camping are normal for most Units but the quest for more adventurous activities means that climbing, canoeing, caving, parascending, sailing and cross country expeditions are growing in popularity.
Arrangements for assessment for passing of the awards are made by the Unit Executive Committee.
