Membership Award

This badge takes the form of the World Membership Badge, i.e. the Arrowhead Badge on a purple background, surrounded by a rope in a circle, tied in a reef knot at the bottom.

What's it all about

The Venture Scout Membership Badge is about helping you to

• Become involved with the life of the Unit
• Learn something about the fundamentals of Scouting
• become more familiar with the work of the Executive Committee in managing the Unit
• Find out what you are expected to do as a member
• start to find out how you can live up to the Scout Promise and Law

Requirements

Action

Take part in a sufficient number of activities with the Unit to ensure that you are aware of the responsibilities and implications of Membership.

Understanding

Show that you understand and support the aims and international aspects of the Scout Movement and that you know how your Unit is managed and what is expected of you as a Venture Scout.

Commitment

Know and understand and accept the Scout Promise and Law.

How do I do it?

Whether you are new to Venture Scouting or coming up from the Troop, the Venture Scout Membership badge is meant to provide you with an introduction to Venture Scouting and the opportunity to become an accepted and valued Member of the Unit.

This is done simply through participation in a number of Unit Activities, using every opportunity to observe, listen and ask questions.

Find out who is a Member of the Executive Committee, what is their specific role? Who decided on this particular activity and why? Ask your Leaders or Executive Committee Members what they expect of you as a Venture Scout.

Think about the Scout Promise and Law. Does it contain anything contrary to your present views? Is it worth trying to live up to?

When you feel you have some answers to your questions, a Member of the Unit will discuss with you how well things have gone, what you have learned from these early experiences of Venture Scouting and whether you have enjoyed yourself. This discussion may be very informal and could take place anywhere. It may be in the back of a mini-bus on the way home from an activity, waiting in the queue at the local ice rink, or simply while walking to or from work, or it may be in a quiet few minutes at the end of a Unit Meeting.

Remember, your own interests and hobbies are important, especially for planning future programmes and activities, so make your views known.

Finally, the presentation of the Badge will be arranged by your Leader in consultation with the Unit Executive Committee.
